Our story

H o w I t A l l B e g a n

The foundations of Triterra are represented by traditions dating back a long history that has been passed on from generation to generation.
In this way, our wines bear a mark of uniqueness and originality.

The name Triterra in itself tells our story and our affiliation.
Our plantation is located in the northwestern part of Transylvania, which is only a few kilometers away from the Romanian, Hungarian and Ukrainian triple borders.
This triple border does not obviously affect the winemaking process, but even more so the cultural richness that has shaped the region’s wine traditions and knowledge.

Going further in this thought, the word “terra” stands out, it is deeply rooted in the heart of the hills of Halmeu as the first written memory of the settlement appears as “Terra Holmy”.

Property

V i n e y a r d A r e a

Triterra Winery stretches over 5 hectares on the southern slope of the famous hills of Halmeu.

This vineyard is important for us, not only because it forms the solid basis for the winery, but also because some of these vines carry stories that span through several generations.

Continuing this tradition, we intend to plant another 10 hectares with which we will begin to write our story for future generations.

grapes

In our plantations we grow and take very good care of 8 grape varieties from Cabernet Sauvignon, Fetească Neagră (Black Maiden), Fetească Regală (Royal Maiden), Italian Riesling, Muscat, Traminer, Furmint and Sauvignon Blanc.

These varieties were not chosen by chance, on the one hand their historical past has already proved their ability to bring outstanding quality on the hills of Halmeu, and at the same time following the path of innovation and professional challenge, we experimentally planted Furmint and Sauvignon Blanc varieties, on the adaptation of which we pay careful attention and closely follow.

Transylvania region

T e r r o i r

The vineyard, which forms the backbone of our winery, lies on the hillsides formed by the layered deposits of volcanic rocks of Halmeu.
The landscape was shaped by once active volcanic activities, so the volcanic soil structure is a defining element of the terroir.

The region consists almost entirely of southern hillsides, due to the combination of this location and related climatic processes, as well as its northern location, the town has a unique microclimate, that clearly makes its mark on viticulture and also on the resulting wines.
